Advocacy

DMI represents downtown stakeholders throughout the entire region to create a strong collective voice for downtown Madison. We work closely with residents, business owners, employees, elected officials, government staff and property owners to advocate for what's in the best interest of the central city.

The bulk of DMI's work is accomplished through our standing committees in accordance with the DMI Civic Agenda which is updated annually. These committees utilize the expertise and experience of DMI members to work on issues and projects that have an impact on the downtown. The DMI Executive Committee takes into consideration recommendations from each committee and brings positions and statements to the DMI Board of Directors for final approval. Once a position has been taken, DMI actively engages community leaders, city staff and elected officials to ensure that the downtown interests are taken into account. The areas of focus for DMI's advocacy work are: Economic Development, Regional Transportation, Quality of Life, Safety, Parking and Bicycling.
