Who today doesn't use technology to communicate with our families and coworkers? We email, text, leave voice messages, video conference with friends, children and grandchildren and participate in social media to both share and receive news from those who are important to us. Even though we leverage the power of virtual communication, we often default to doing so as if we are always face-to-face. There's a difference. Congratulations to the Madison Area Sports Commission for the CrossFit Games being nominated by the readers of SportsTravel for a 2018 SportsTravel Award! This event can be found on the awards ballot that appears at Voting is open through August 15, 2018. The winners of the 2018 SportsTravel Awards will be announced at TEAMS '18 in Louisville, October 1-4, 2018. The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP  and the Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative (RWHC) today announced the winners of their fourth annual Community Engagement Award. The winner of the $2,500 grant is Mile Bluff Medical Center in Mauston, Wis. The second place award of $500 was given to Stoughton Hospital Association in Stoughton, Wis. The awards are provided by Quarles & Brady. RWHC is a cooperative of 41 rural acute, general medical-surgical hospitals throughout Wisconsin. The award recognizes two RWHC Member Hospitals demonstrating excellence in strengthening community health and wellness partnerships.

Quarles & Brady adds Former State Representative Thomas Springer to its Real Estate Group. Springer's practice focuses on Federal Indian Law, representing tribes and tribal businesses on a variety of issues including economic development, infrastructure and transportation facilities, land acquisitions and exchanges, and fee to trust transfers. He has successfully negotiated tribal gaming compacts and intergovernmental agreements, appeared numerous times before federal advisory committees and has successfully advocated the tribal position on legislation at the state and federal levels.

The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP today announced that Jeffery P. Phillips has joined the firm's Bankruptcy, Restructuring and Creditor's Rights Practice Group in the role as Senior Counsel in its Madison office. Phillips focuses his practice on representation of debtors and creditors in Chapters 7, 11, 12 and 13 proceedings, including non-dischargeability actions and other adversary matters. Phillips advises clients on contract compliance with Wisconsin Consumer Act and provisions of the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (ATCP).
