Tim Lightner, owner of Two Men and a Truck and active board member of DMI, was recently highlighted in Franchise Times today. He also volunteers his time to a trade association that promotes franchising called the International Franchise Association (IFA). IFA promotes the benefits of franchising and entrepreneurship, and he was recently asked to be a panelist at a meeting of franchisors in Minneapolis, hosted by Faegre BD, which focused on sharing best practices and current trends in the industry. He was one of the first franchisees ever to be invited to be part of this event which traditionally includes just franchisors. Tim started the franchise in 1993 in Madison with one truck and two movers. He took orders himself and helped on the truck nights and weekends - working his regular full-time job during the day. In those early years, orders were taken by phone, hand-written in a paper book, and drivers called from pay phones in between moves. His growth goals were modest. "I thought if I could make it to three trucks in five years, I would have arrived," he remembers of those early years. "That seemed like a huge goal at the time. "Today, the Madison franchise runs 20 trucks during the summertime and he's proud to have a staff of 80. His goals today, 20 years later, focus more on giving back to the industry, his community and developing his staff. "I get huge satisfaction," he says, "from watching our people learn and develop, and achieving their own dreams." Madison B-Cycle is formally announcing that all 39 of the city's B-cycle s tations are fully operational including the addition of five new stations on Madison's West Side. The five stations add efficient mobility and another transportation option as far west as the Shorewood Hills neighborhood, Hilldale Shopping Center, and UW Health's Digestive Health Center. The five new stations have contributed to a 37% growth in B-cycle trips since last season.

Run, don't walk to register for the 9th Annual Zoo Run Run & Kids Roo Run Run on Sunday, September 28, 2014! Raise Money for the Zoo! NEW THIS YEAR, Friends of the Henry Vilas Zoo is challenging Zoo Run Run participants to raise money for the Zoo. With your help, they hope to meet or exceed their 2014 fundraising goal of $10,000. The money raised will benefit the Friends of the Henry Vilas Zoo. Friends of the Zoo was founded in 1914 to fund Henry Vilas Zoo improvements. Tax Help Needed!! Madison CPA firm needs tax preparers for the upcoming 2015 season and beyond. If you are an experienced tax preparer and you are looking for seasonal work or full-time work they may have the opportunity you need! These full or part-time seasonal positions will be hired on a mutually agreed upon schedule during the period from February 1 - April 15, 2015. Compensation will be commensurate with experience. Full-time non-seasonal opportunities could be available for the right candidate(s). Candidate will prepare 1040 tax returns (1041 trust returns experience is a plus) and may have to perform light research to answer questions. Good communication skills are necessary as this position may involve face-to-face client contact and communications with clients over the phone/email. Experience with CCH ProSystem Tax and ProSystem Engagement, as well as QuickBooks is a plus. CPA is not required, but previous experience is a must.
