5NINES is now partnering with local businesses, non-profits, and community centers to offer free high-speed wireless Internet access to their guests and customers. Using 4G cellular technology coupled with souped-up WIFI access points, 5NINES now delivers nomadic and mobile connectivity around the downtown area, supported by network backbones that the company has been deploying and scaling since 2006. The company has already constructed two 4G cellular sites in the downtown area, and will be expanding its coverage throughout 2015 and 2016 by adding two more 4G cellular sites to its deployment. Requirements to access 5NINES Wi-Fi are minimal. Businesses can apply for a pre-configured router from 5NINES. Once approved the router can be picked up at 5NINES Downtown Office, placed near a window, and turned on. It will start broadcasting a WIFI network signal, which users can then join with their WIFI-enable devices. A one-time fee of $150 for the router will be charged to businesses. A $75 fee applies to non-profits. There is no monthly access fee, usage fees, or anything that typical wireless carriers charge. The service is not meant for businesses to use as their primary internet service.
