Summit Credit Union is awarding four $1,500 tuition scholarships this May. Scholarship opportunities are available to all high school seniors and college students who are members of Summit Credit Union and have a GPA of at least 3.0. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of South Central Wisconsin has selected Julie Sheldon of Applied Tech, to lead a ten-week fundraising campaign. Sheldon has joined a group of Madison community leaders who will dedicate themselves to raising funds in support of research seeking cures and to improve therapies for leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and Hodgkin’s disease. Candidates will conduct their own fundraising campaigns to raise money for LLS within a ten-week period. The male and female candidates who generate the most funds at the end of the ten-weeks will be awarded the title of 2012 Man & Woman of the Year. This year’s fundraising period for the Capital City campaign begins on Thursday, March 22, 2012 and will culminate at the Grand Finale Gala on Friday, June 1, 2012, where the winners will be announced. Sheldon hopes to have the support of the membership with several opportunities during the ten week campaign. One goal is collecting silent and live auction donations to help her reach the goal of $20k for LLS. Think of the many volunteers you know who give their time and talent to improve the lives of others. Have you ever wanted to say “Thank You” but weren’t quite sure how? The United Way Community Volunteer Awards give you a chance to recognize individuals, youth, groups and businesses who strengthen our community through volunteering! Volunteers from any Dane County nonprofit agencies are eligible to be nominated. Nominations may be submitted until February 24, 2012. All nominees will be recognized and award recipients will be announced at the Community Volunteer Awards luncheon on April 26, 2012 at the Madison Concourse Hotel and Governor's Club. Winter in Wisconsin will get a little warmer in February, as Fromagination hosts fondue lunches every Wednesday and Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at their communal table. The price is $22.50 per person. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 608-255-2430. Each seating is limited to 10 people and space is filling quickly, so reserve your seat today. There will also be a special lunch for Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, February 14th at 11 a.m. & 1 p.m.

The partners of Boardman, Suhr, Curry & Field LLP and Lathrop & Clark LLP have announced that they are forming a new partnership as of January 1, 2012. The new firm, Boardman & Clark LLP, will have nearly 70 lawyers, making it the second largest Madison-based law firm. The new firm will continue serving individuals, businesses and local governments, with a focus on banks, health care organizations, auto dealerships, school districts, municipal utilities and insurance companies. It will be headquartered at the current Boardman offices and will continue to have offices in Baraboo, Poynette, Lodi, Prairie du Sac and Belleville.

The Wisconsin Dance Marathon is a UW-Madison student-run philanthropy group, working to raise money for American Family Children's Hospital. The Dance Marathon is an annual, high-energy, 15-hour event, from sundown to sunup. During the Marathon participants dance, enjoy entertainment and free food, and remember the kids that they are pledging to support. The marathon is taking place on March 2, 2012 at the Wisconsin Union, 800 Langdon St. Online registration/donations are now available. Whether you join or start a team, dance, donate or become a sponsor, everyone is vital to the event's success. To help women gain the financial knowledge they need and become successful planners, Summit Credit Union is holding two free seminars entitled, "Spend Less, Save More, Enjoy Life: Financial Tips for Women in Today’s Economy." You’re invited to a grand evening of neo-Victorian fun at Madison Children’s Museum’s next edition of Adult Swim! The theme for this event, from 6–10 p.m. Friday, February 10, is Steampunk Cabaret. Activities will include cabaret music by local contemporary chamber ensemble New Music Everywhere (aka New MUSE), immersion actors from TeslaCon, jewelry making, fortune telling and tarot card reading, a costume contest, and more. Beer, wine, and Roman Candle pizza will be available for purchase. Adults 21 and up are welcome. Tickets include access to the museum’s exhibits and to the band. The Bike Fed’s 4th Annual Wisconsin Bike Summit will bring together more than 500 bike enthusiasts from every corner of the state to learn about bicycle infrastructure and programming, share success stories, and stand in support of making every ride taken in Wisconsin safe, enjoyable, and fun. The 2012 Wisconsin Bike Summit is taking place on Tuesday, February 21 at the Inn at the Park, Best Western, 22 S. Axley Law Firm recently named Attorney Gesina (Ena) Seiler a partner in the firm. Seiler has an extensive background in insurance defense, and repeatedly represents municipalities in employment and civil rights matters. She represents businesses and health care providers involved in litigation, and also practices in the criminal law arena, representing defendants charged with OWI, battery, disorderly conduct, among others. Seiler currently serves on the board for the Legal Association for Women and is co-editor of the Wisconsin Insurance Law Alert. Wisconsin Super Lawyers and Rising Stars magazine recently named Seiler a Wisconsin Rising Star in civil litigation.
