The Institute of Museum and Library Services announced the Madison Public Library as one of 10 recipients of the 2016 National Medal for Museum and Library Service, the nation’s highest honor given to museums and libraries for service to the community. For 22 years, the award has celebrated institutions that respond to societal needs in innovative ways, making a difference for individuals, families, and their communities. The Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center recently released their 2015 Annual Report. Since opening, Monona Terrace staff has held that providing economic benefit for Madison, being a community gathering place and a destination for tourists are the three critical missions of the organization. Like other community minded businesses, their annual report reflects on the year that just ended. It reviews their performance against objectives, takes stock of their accomplishments and identifies areas where they could improve as it relates to those three core elements of their mission. The 35th Annual Crazylegs Classic run/walk is taking place on Saturday, April 30th at 10am in downtown Madison to support UW Athletics. The race will include an 8K run and 2-mile walk and will begin on the Capitol Square and finish near the 50 yard line of Camp Randall Stadium. The Crazylegs Classic has become a time-honored tradition of the University of Wisconsin, as well as a much anticipated event to kickoff spring in the Madison community. Michael Norton, Harvard Business School professor and co-author of Happy Money: The Science of Happier Spending, will headline “MADISON GIVES,” the Madison Community Foundation’s Annual Event on Thursday, May 12, at the Monona Terrace Community & Convention Center. The two-part program will feature Norton in a live interview with Wisconsin Public Radio's “To the Best of Our Knowledge” host Anne Strainchamps, followed by a reception, dinner and keynote speech by Norton. The Urban League of Greater Madison Young Professionals proudly presents their third annual Emerge Gala on Saturday, April 30 from 5:30pm to midnight at The Madison Concourse Hotel & Governor’s Club. Every June through September, the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation hosts a series of historic architecture walking tours. Hundreds of Madison residents and visitors attend to learn about Madison's historic neighborhoods and commercial districts. This year's tours will begin on Saturday, June 4 and will continue through September 24. Tours are Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. (through August 27) and Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. 2016 tours include some favorites from past years, including Mansion Hill East, their most popular tour last year. The Madison Mini Maker Faire is taking place on Saturday, May 14 from 10am-5pm at the Monona Terrace Community & Convention Center. Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning. Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. The 2016 Tour Du Taliesin cycling event is taking place on Sunday, May 22 from 8:00am-5:00pm. Taliesin, the home, studio and estate of Frank Lloyd Wright, is in Spring Green, Wisconsin. The non-profit Taliesin Preservation is the steward of Taliesin and is responsible for its preservation as well as public programming highlighting Wright's architecture and ideas. Tour du Taliesin features two different ticketing levels and two different route distances, the MASTER and the APPRENTICE ticketing levels and the 38 Mile ride and the 100 Mile ride. Scott Haumersen, CPA, CGMA, Partner at Wegner CPAs, is being honored with the Inspiration Award by the Urban League of Greater Madison Young Professionals. The award recognizes the work Haumersen has done in the community that helps to further the Urban League's mission. Known as a leader in the Madison area, Haumersen is being recognized for the impact he makes on young professionals in the community through mentoring and support, as well as the creation of growth opportunities for the young leaders at Wegner CPAs. Haumersen will receive the award at the Urban League of Greater Madison Young Professionals 3rd Annual Emerge Gala on April 30th.

Boardman & Clark recently announced the addition of Dan Gartzke as the firm’s newest attorney. Dan joins the firm with over 30 years of experience. Prior to joining Boardman & Clark, Dan built a state-wide practice as a solo practitioner, with wide-ranging trial experience in civil matters before trial courts and administrative agencies, in multiple counties throughout Wisconsin. Dan will be primarily focusing in the area of family law at the firm. Boardman & Clark is one of Madison’s largest and longest-standing law firms, and serves individuals, a wide range of business and corporate clients, school districts and local governments.

Eric Schmidt of Middleton, WI has been promoted to Vice President at CG Schmidt. As one of the owners of this family-owned company, Eric was previously serving as the General Manager of CG Schmidt’s Madison office. He relocated to Madison in 2010, when CG Schmidt made the corporate decision to focus resources on growing the Madison market. Under Eric’s leadership, CG Schmidt’s Madison office experienced extreme growth, even during the downturn in the economy. Eric has been with the company for 25 years and received his bachelor’s degree in construction administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed the executive MBA program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
