On Saturday, July 18th, about 360 registered boats participated in the 30th annual Paddle & Portage canoe race. The race started at James Madison Park with a 1.5 mile paddle on Lake Mendota, followed by a 1 mile portage over the central isthmus, and a final 1.5 mile paddle across Lake Monona to finish at Olin-Turville Park. Following the race, participants and spectators enjoyed music, food, and the 2009 Paddle & Portage awards ceremony.
